INSANE PRESIDENT, INSANE JUDICIAL SYSTEM: Tshisekedi Tasks The “Sick” Judicial System to Track Down Corrupt Practices

Democratic Republic of Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi could be in a state of amnesia or just as insane as he described the country’s judicial system which he has now turned to, to end corrupt practices ahead of the senatorial and governorship elections.

During his address of the nation at a press briefing barely last month, Tshisekedi described the Congolese judicial system as “sick” having failed to serve the rule of law and run free of illegal and corrupt practices.

However like a sick person as he labeled it to be, Tshisekedi has asked the same judicial system to deal with the rife and real allegations of corruption and the coinage of votes by provincial deputies to senator and governor candidates.

Speaking on Tuesday evening at the Cité de l’Union Africaine, Tshisekedi tasked Minister of Justice Rose Mutombo ensure the Attorney General of the Court of Cassation draws his attention to the subject of corruption and electoral malpractices during the elections.

Tshisekedi’s call on the Congolese judicial system to crack down on corruption and malpractices is further contradictive as his presidency is also a product of a shambolic electoral process that was marred with several irregularities.

Initially scheduled for March 31 and April 7, the senatorial and governorship elections have been postponed by three weeks by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) and will now be held on April 21 and 28th respectively.
