FOOTBALL: Legendary Shabani Nonda Set To Stand As FA President

Legendary retired Congolese international Shabani Nonda is reportedly preparing to present his candidature for the presidency of the country’s football governing body, FECOFA, ahead of the elections this year.

Placed under the leadership of a temporal Normalization Committee set up by FIFA, Congolese football is finally set to elect new leaders in November, 2023 to take over from the deposed Constant Omari.

Nonda, a former national team captain, has since emerged as one of the individuals set to vie for the top seat in Congolese football.

The 46-year old former AS Monaco, AS Roma and Blackburn Rovers midfielder is however, yet to officially confirm his intentions to run for the chairmanship of FECOFA despite widespread reports that claimed he will be vying for the post.

At the moment, Aziz Makukula, also former footballer, has openly declared his intentions to be on the ballot for the polls set for 11 November.

Makukula was born in Kinshasa before moving to Portugal as a 10 year old and went on to represent the Portuguese national team ahead of Les Leopards.

Meanwhile, politician and former Linafoot club FC Sanga Balende President Ngoyi Kasanji is another prominent figure that has been widely mentioned to be eyeing the FECOFA presidency.
