DRC ELECTIONS: The Carter Center Confirm to Send Electoral Observation Mission In December Polls

US non-governmental organization The Carter Center have confirmed it will be deploying an international electoral observation mission to the DRC for the upcoming Presidential Elections slated for 20 December.

A delegation from the Carter Center led by Director Nicolas Teindas paid a courtesy call on DRC electoral commission, CENI President Dénis Kadima Kazadi in Kinshasa this morning.

The Carter Center Director Nicolas Teindas revealed that the organization will be sending a mission to observe the elections following an invitation from the DRC’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We were invited by the Congolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to come and observe the electoral process. We are coming out of a working session with the Electoral Commission headed by President Denis Kadima and we discussed our mission, its structure and what we are going to do in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” Teindas said.

Teindas added that the Carter Center mission would be made up of an experts management team as well as long-term observers who will be deployed on the ground during the polls.

“The discussions allowed us to explain what we are going to do and what the objectives are, the reports that we can produce which will be communicated with the Electoral Commission. Our collaboration has a long history, it is not new and what we hope is that it can continue to be fruitful and sincere. Not only with the Electoral Commission, but with all the stakeholders that we are called upon to meet in all areas,” he said.

CENI President Dénis Kadima Kazadi who was accompanied by Electoral Center was accompanied in particular by his 1st Vice-President Bienvenu Ilanga Lembow and the Communications Manager Patricia Nseya, thanked Teindas and the Carter Center for accepting the invitation to oversee a free and fair electoral process in the DRC.

The Carter Center is a non-profit organization created in 1982 by former US President of the, Jimmy Carter with the aim of advancing peace by participating in the promotion of democracy.
