DRC ELECTIONS: African Union Announce Deployment Of Electoral Observation Mission To Kinshasa On Wednesday

The African Union (AU) have announced that it will be sending an electoral observation mission to Kinshasa ahead of next week’s 2023 General Elections.

In a press statement issued on its official website on Tuesday, the AU specifies that the mission will be consist of up 65 short-term observers.

The AUOM is expected to monitor the DRC’s electoral process in the country from tomorrow, Wednesday 13th to 26th December during the course of general elections set for 20th December.

The AUOM will be in the DRC with the aim, among other things, to make an impartial and objective assessment of the conduct of the general elections in accordance with regional, continental and international standards in terms of democratic elections.

The mission will also aim to contribute to the successful holding of credible and peaceful elections with a view to consolidating democratic governance, peace and stability in the country, adds the AU.

Finally, members of the AUOM will formulate recommendations with a view to improving future electoral processes and reaffirming the solidarity and support of the AU towards the Congolese people.

With the mission due to arrive in Kinshasa on Wednesday, it will also interview stakeholders part of the process and observe the final days of the campaign and voting operations.
