DEMAND FOR JUSTICE: UN Mission Calls on Congolese Government to Bring to Justice the Perpetrators of Goma Bombing Attacks

The United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, MONUSCO, have urged the Congolese government to ensure that those responsible for last Friday’s bombing attacks in the city of Goma, North Kivu Province are brought to face the full course of the law.

MONUSCO strongly condemned the bombing of displaced people’s sites in Goma where provisional reports have indicated about 10 people are said to lost their lives and calls on the Congolese authorities to take drastic measures to bring the perpetrators of this tragedy to justice.

“The Special Representative calls on the Congolese authorities to take all necessary measures to bring to justice the perpetrators of these heinous acts, which are a flagrant violation of human rights,” said Bintou Keita, UN Special Representative in the DR Congo.

Bintou Keita also reaffirmed the UN Mission’s unwavering commitment to support efforts to restore peace, security and stability in eastern DR Congo while also appeals to armed groups to cease all hostilities against civilians.
