Fearing an overwhelming turn-out, President Felix Tshisekedi has ordered the governor of Kinshasa to cancel a protest organized by the opposition for tomorrow May 13, 2023, but instead offered them an option to stage the procession on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Popular opposition leader Moise Katumbi, Ecide leader Martin Fayulu, former prime minister Augustin Matata Ponyo and Delly Sesanga are the main organizers of the march.
The protest aims to highlight the high cost of living, chaotic organization of the election arising from the registration process, the war in eastern Congo, among others.
At the end of a meeting called to harmonize the date held Thursday, the governor said the meeting could not go ahead due to security concerns.
It was therefore decided that the meeting be set for Thursday, May 18, 2023.
