CHAOTIC POLLS: CENI Suspends Voting In Mbandaka Following Clashes Between Locals and Electoral Agents

The Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) has indefinitely suspended voting in Bokombodji community of Mbandaka city in Équateur Province following clashes between the electorate and the commission’s voting agents.

Electoral agents at three polling stations in Bokomodji were attacked by eager members of the people who were allegedly infuriated by the delay to open the voting centres.

Some members of the public are said to have grown impatient by the CENI agents who made the people wait for long hours to cast their votes.

CENI have since resolved to suspend the polls in the community where cases of damage to voting equipment were recorded.

Meanwhile, voting at two other polling stations, EP Liziba centers and Salongo, in Mbandaka has resumed following violent clashes on earlier today.

Voting is currently underway at the said two voting centres following police intervention to stabilize the situation in the area.
