BACK ONLINE: Incarcerated Stanis Bujakera’s X Account Reactivated

Detained journalist Stanis Bujakera’s X account (formerly Twitter) has been reactivated after almost two months of inactivity following his arrest.

On Monday 20 November, Bujakera’s media management team announced the resumption of activities on the account of the most followed Congolese journalist on the X social platform.

“Since current events require it, we are resuming the publication of information on this account starting this Tuesday. This is a minimum service while awaiting the return, which we hope is imminent, of Stanis Bujakera Tshiamala, unjustly detained at Makala central prison for having done his work,” we can read on his account which has 556,280 subscribers.

Bujakera remains in custody at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa where he has been kept since 8th September when he was arrested at Ndjili International Airport.

The Congolese authorities have continued to push back requests by the defense counsel for the provisional release of Bujakera who has been accused of “spreading false rumors”, “manufacturing and disseminating false documents” attributed to a report about the assassination of former Transport Minister Cherubin Okende by the Jeune Afrique, an article the former denies to have written.
