ALL-WEATHER PARTNER: Tshisekedi Reassured of Support From France in Ongoing Insecurities

Democratic Republic of Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi says the country is well assured of France’s support amidst ongoing insecurities in the eastern region.

On Tuesday, Tshisekedi concluded his two-day visit in Paris where he held exchanges with his French counterpart President Emmanuel Macron.

Addressing a question relating to the security situation in the DR Congo arising from the ongoing war between the Congolese army (FARDC) and M23 rebel fighters, Tshisekedi said he was reassured by France’s support in the process of restoring peace in this part of the country.

“What caught my attention the most was France’s even greater commitment alongside the Congolese people, especially in what we are experiencing as an unjust war imposed on us by Rwanda, which supports the M23. I think that with the discussions we had today, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. We can count, I can say it, it’s a risk that I take but I accept it, we can say that we can count on France which will be at our side to find this peace,” Tshisekedi said.

The eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo remains an area plagued with insecurities due to the continued emergence of armed groups for several decades.
