AGENT OF PEACE: Moise Katumbi Condemns Use of Violence Following Coup Attempt

Democratic Republic of Congo’s opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi has come out to condemn the Sunday’s coup d’etat attempt by American-based Congolese politician Christian Malanga who 0ccupied the presidential palace in Kinshasa before being shot dead by the Congolese army.

Katumbi, who was President Felix Tshisekedi’s closest challenger in the 20 December General Elections, has denounced the shooting that at the presidential palace as well as Deputy Prime Minister Vital Kamerhe’s residence.

“Whatever the nature of the political demands, the use of violence cannot be an option for the peace, stability and development to which all Congolese aspire!” Katumbi reacted through his spokesperson Olivier Kamitatu.

Kamitatu also emphasizes that “all light must be shed and responsibilities must be drawn up on the nature of the events that caused these losses of human life in the capital”.

However, Kamitatu also stressed that the search for the truth cannot lead to arbitrary arrests and hasty judgments following reports that Tshisekedi and his government are targeting a number of individuals including high-ranking army officials for prosecution.
