2024 WAFCON QUALIFIERS: DR Congo Beat Benin To Reach Final Round Of Qualifiers

The DR Congo women’s national team have reached second and final round of qualifiers for the Morocco 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after edging Benin 2-1 this afternoon in Cotonou to progress with a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.

After securing a 2-1 win in the first leg played in Kinshasa last Friday, the Leopard Dames needed only to avoid defeat today in the Beninese capital to see off the West Africans.

However, it was the hosts Benin who drew first blood after just five minutes played at the Stade de l’Amitié through striker Yolande Gnammi to put her side on course for qualification.

Mazembe FCF star Merveille Kanjinga would then restore parity for Leopard Dames in the 31st minute with an easy tap in from close range.

The Leopard Dames took control of the scoreboard with Turkish-based Galatasaray midfielder Naomie Kaba-Kaba firing her side in the lead three minutes after Kanjinga’s leveler.

Kaba-Kaba’s goal put the tie beyond Benin’s reach as the Leopard Dames progressed to the final round of qualifiers where they will face Equatorial Guinea.
