[VIDEO] UDPS MILITANTS ATTACK FAYULU SUPPORTERS: Democracy Is In Danger, Says Opposition Leader

Opposition Ecide president Martin Fayulu says democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo is in danger.

This follows attacks on his supporters who attended a public rally which denounced the chaotic preparation of the December 20, 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“During the preparatory meeting for our gathering, the governor of the city of Kinshasa and his collaborators warned that we would be attacked with machetes.

“Indeed, young people armed with machetes, in complicity with certain police officers, took action on July 29. This is unacceptable.

“Fortunately, our militants imposed a fierce resistance on them and thanks to their numbers and their determination, we overcame,” Fayulu, widely seen as winner of the 2018 elections, said.

At the rally, Fayulu also criticised President Felix Tshisekedi for being jittery when referred to as an appointed president.

Tshisekedi’s election was disputed as a fraudulent arrangement that did not represent the will of the people.
