Youths in Kolwezi have accused the first family of teaming up with foreign nationals presumably Lebanese to take over their land for mining purposes.
The youths who are artisanal miners have accused President Felix Tshisekedi’s brother, Christian, of teaming with some Lebanese to oust them from the area.
They mounted protests and have vowed to protect their land.
The youths say their only livelihood is now being taken away from them so they have to fight to the very end.
“These people are even saying the president is in their pocket. We demand that we are heard. This is our area and it is a place we have found a way of feeding our families,” one of the youths in the video showing protesters says.
