Ruling UDPS cadres known as “com batants” yesterday humiliated Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Jean Pierre Bemba for failing to repossess Bunagana, an eastern city under the control of M-23 rebels.
Bemba, leader of the MLC, was appointed early this year to contribute to the stability of eastern Congo which is reported to have about 244 rebel groups.
The towering figure is also a former rebel leader who later became vice-president of the country.
However, he has had a fractious relationship with President Felix Tshisekedi and base where he has not been wholeheartedly welcomed.
It manifested on Saturday when Bomba joined the entourage of Tshisekedi to file his nomination for president.
Tshisekedi’s supporters booed Bemba while chanting slogans he had failed the Congo over Bunagana.
