UNREST IN EAST CONGO: M23, DRC Forces In Renewed Gunfire

Clashes resumed since early morning on Thursday, February 23, 2023 on Mushununu Hill near Mushaki, about 15km from Sake in Masisi territory in North Kivu.

Corresponding sources report that the Congolese soldiers, FARDC, managed to disperse the M23/RDF rebels from the Mushaki antenna where violent clashes took place on the evening of Wednesday, February 22.

“Since the beginning of the offensive, the M23/RDF has not set foot in Mushaki center, unlike what is being broadcasted by some internet,” says one source in the military.

The source confirms that the Goma-Masisi road is indeed well controlled and secured by the FARDC, determined to repel the enemy who is visibly seeking to reach the Rubaya mining square and cut off that stretch that supplies the city of Goma with agricultural products.

FARDC’s heavy artillery is being used again this Thursday to pound the rebel location.
