A civil society representative in Lubumbashi, Dieddonne Mushagalusa, has raised alarm on suspicious voter registration tactics deployed by the ruling party UPDS describing it as a privatization of centers to advantage President Felix Tshisekedi.
Mushagalusa, a representative of the National Coordination of Panel Civil Society Experts, has warned Congolese nationals not to allow anyone to steal the vote from them.
He says Kamalondo, Kitumaini, Kiwele and Imara have had strange and suspicious activities deployed by the UDPS and must be questioned to avoid tainting the integrity of the outcome of the elections.
Lubumbashi is the second largest city in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is the stronghold for opposition leader Moise Katumbi.
Mushagalusa says the DRC deserves a good, free and fair election to avaoid post electoral turmoil.
“Indeed, the voter registration and enrollment centers of IMARA,
KIWELE in the Municipality of Lubumbashi and that of KITUMAINI in the Municipality of KAMALONDO have been literally be privatized by UDPS during this operation of identification and registration of voter course.
“The UDPS gathers its militants (youths) in its various offices of
representation in the city of Lubumbashi to transport them
collectively by bus to the region centers mentioned. Once there, the
CENI officials only enlist these helpless-looking militants ahead
of all the other applicants who nevertheless make the sacrifice of arriving first on the spot.
“As soon as the enrollment of these militants is completed, all the multiple countless cards issued are collected by a manager
of the Party who forwards them to the headquarters of their federation in Kinshasa,” he says.
Mushagalusa says these activities must be checked to avoid duplicity and ghost voters aimed at favouring the incumbent.
