TSHISEKEDI-KABILA TIFF: Ex-President Tells Regional Heads Upcoming Elections Will Bring Chaos

Former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila has sent emissaries across the Great Lakes regions denouncing the electoral process overseen by his successor President Felix Tshisekedi warning that failure to produce a credible result will degenerate into chaos.

According to cables seen by the African Intelligence, Kabila sent emissaries to Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Kenya’s President William Ruto and President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania.

The move has agitated President Tshisekedi who is watch his rather tight-lipped rival. Kabila has denounced the electoral process stating that it was not constitutionally organized because of the composition of CENI and the Constitutional Court, among other issues.

In his letter to the regional heads of states, Kabila also views the need to “change the current governance system” in the DRC as an immediate necessity.

He, however, says the process for a transparent, free, fair, credible and inclusive election has been held to ransom thereby making the elections “no longer a solution, but a issue that may plunge the country into chaos.”

Kabila’s PPRD which is in a coalition under the FCC banner has since refused to participate in the electoral process as, according to them, doing so will legitimize a convoluted process.
