South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo on a two-day official state visit aimed at strengthening the two nation’s economic cooperations.

President Ramaphosa arrived in the capital, Kinshasa on Wednesday evening and is expected to sign a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DR Congo as confirmed by the state.

The South African leader is today expected to co-chair the government segment of 12th session of the DRC–South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) with his Congolese counterpart President Fèlix Tshisekedi.

Also the BNC, the two nations also discussed matters relating immigration and Congolese refugees that have settled in South Africa.

So far South Africa has over 5600 refugees as of February, 2023 with just 307 have been repatriated thanks to the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

The two nations also resolved to engage the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in the DR Congo to identify Congolese refugee and other asylum seekers that may want to return home.
