SADC EXTRAORDINARY MEETING: Stressed Tshisekedi Arrives in Zambia to Discuss Regional Security

Democratic Republic of Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi has arrived in the capital city of Zambia, Lusaka where he will be participating in SADC extraordinary summit focused on the insecurities in eastern DRC as well as the Cabo Delgado region of Mozambique.

Currently under pressure from the continued advancement of the M23 rebels in eastern DRC, Tshisekedi arrived in Lusaka on Saturday and to join dozens of heads of state from the Troika Board that includes leaders from Zambia, Tanzania, Namibia as well as those from Angola and Zimbabwe.

Contributing countries of the SADC Military Mission to eastern DRC (SAMIRDC) are also taking part in the meeting that got underway last Friday.

The participants of the meeting will be briefed on the progress of the SADC Missions supporting the DRC and Mozambique in their efforts to restore peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the sub-region.

Meanwhile on the ground, new violent clashes have broken out since Friday between the M23 fighters and the Congolese army in Bihambwe and other surrounding areas of eastern DRC.
