The city of Goma, capital of North Kivu province, remains in the sights of the March 23 rebellion (M23) movement in coalition with its sponsor, Rwanda Defense Force (RDF).
The alert was given by Deputy Minister of National Defence and former combatants Adubango Awoto Samy, during the 100th Ministerial Council held this weekend. In the face of this threat, the government assures the Democratic Republic of Congo Armed Forces remain on maximum alert to counter it.
“The Deputy Minister of National Defense and Veterans informed the Council that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo are on alert against M-23 terrorists backed by the Rwandan Army who in their expansionist splendor continue their destabilization operations in North Kivu with objective” for an assault on Goma town.
