Several political actors, civil society members and civic structures have confirmed the presence of M23 rebels in several
parts of Masisi territory.
Elements of the M23 have been spotted in the Mushaki area on the Sake-Masisi road.
“Since last Friday, the M23 rebel have unsuccessfully attempted to settle in Jerusalem in Malehe following fierce opposition from the EAC. They have scattered themselves to various entities around Mushaki.
“That’s the case of Bunyole, Kirongo Kabaya, Kausa and many others. We don’t know what gives these rebels the arrogance to continue with the trouble on the population,” an official in Masisi said.
The rebels appear to have an idea of forcing their way to Wazalendu and overcome the EAC to head to active villages like Karuba and
Mushaki where fierce fighting will occur.
