NO CEASEFIRE: M23 Rebels Refuse To Yield; Violent Clashes Recorded In Ngingwe

Violent clashes were recorded yesterday between Congolese defence forces (FARDC) and M23 rebels in Ngingwe on the Karuba axis near the Bahunde chiefship, Masisi territory in North Kivu.

According to corresponding sources, M23 rebels launched attacks on Congolese army positions in Ngingwe and around Karuba since 6am on Wednesdaywith light and heavy weapons.

The fighting at Ngingwe mountain overlooking Kirotshe and Shasha in the Mupfuni Shanga was aiming at the population which was forced to mov enmasse towards Goma and the other towards Bweremana and Minova.

These new clashes occurred a day after the ceasefire, yet signed by the management of the M23. It has been quiet today with no sounds of gunshots however.

The Congolese armed forces have denounced the violation of the ceasefire agreement accusing the M23 of attacking its positions at Rubaya in Masisi and on the Rwindi and Mabenga axis in Rutshuru territory.
