NEW TENSIONS: Tshisekedi Refuses To Accredit European Union Ambassador To Kinshasa

DR Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi has pushed back the European Union (EU) request for accreditation of its new ambassador to Kinshasa amidst new tensions between two parties in the run-up to the 2023 presidential election.

With the appointment of new ambassador having been confirmed back in April by top diplomat Josep Borrell, the new diplomat he has not yet been able to present his credentials as Brussels continue to wait for approval by the DRC.

Tshisekedi is seemingly determined to block the EU access into the DRC for showing concern over the prevailing acts of repression by the authorities against the opposition in the lead up to the 20 December Presidential Elections.

Tshisekedi was left furious at the EU following their strong statement against ongoing pre-election brutality against the opposition and violence affecting citizens.

The EU advised the Tshisekedi’s regime to take corrective actions in order to ensure a free and fair election.
