MORE ROAD ACCIDENTS: Vehicle plunges into the Kibali river While Another Hits into a Pole in Haut-Uele

The province of Haut-Uele in northeast Democratic Republic of Congo has been hit with consecutive road accidents following the collapse of the Kibali bridge on the RN 26 last Sunday 24, February 2025.

Trucks carrying goods as well as public transport vehicles have since had to utilize a diversion route that is in a deplorable state thereby causing road mishaps.

The first incident happened near Ambarau when a driver of a Primo brand vehicle coming from Butembo, North Kivu heading to Moku of Mariminza chiefdom, apparently lost control while trying to climb onto the bridge.

The vehicle is also said to have develop brake system failure which prevented the driver from negotiating past a small bend before reaching the bridge and ended up in the waters of the Kibali River.

Alone in the vehicle, the driver managed to narrowly escape unhurt with the car left completely submerged.

In another incident, another Primo with four on board, was involved in an accident at Mandanga Avenue, in the Tely district of Kupa commune, in downtown Isiro.

Coming from the direction of the local Catholic church, known as the “blue house”, the vehicle hit into a public lighting pole before stopping almost against the wall from the office of the provincial directorate of the Regulatory Authority for Subcontracting in the Private Sector (ARSP).

Among the four survivors, one is out of danger, while the other three remain in critical condition and have since been admitted to a local medical facility to receive quality care.
