Opposition Congo Ya Makasi coalition candidate Moïse Katumbi sent the Haut-Katanga Province capital of Lubumbashi agog as the 2023 General Elections draws near.
On Saturday, massive crowds turned up to welcome Katumbi successful campaign tour in the neighboring towns of Fungurume and Likasi yesterday.
Lubumbashi, one of Katumbi’s strongholds, came alive on Saturday morning as locals trooped to the streets welcome the former Katanga Governor who was in the company of his Congo Ya Makasi coalition allies.
Katumbi escorted by the massive crowd, proceeded to the Forrest Square in Lubumbashi’s central business district where he reassured the population of his committment to bettering the standards of living and the city.
However, Saturday’s proceedings were not devoid of controversial incidents as ruling Sacred Union party thugs attack some members of the Ensemble Pour la Republique party who had gone to meet Katumbi.
The successful Lubumbashi campaign tour set yet another bold statement in Katumbi’s bid to be elected as president in Wednesday’s presidential election.
