Five people have died withl property worth millions damaged in DR Congo capital, Kinshasa, after a tanker truck transporting fuel exploded on Tuesday.
The truck, transporting fuel into the capital city from Kongo Central, caught fire along the Passe Avenue in Lemba community with five people close to the scene killed in the process.
Kinshasa Deputy Governor Gerard Mulumba confirmed the fatalities recorded after arriving at the scene of the tragedy.
“We are at the stage of putting out the fire and taking care of the victims. I have just been informed by the services of, we are at five deaths, which is really saddening” Mulumba said.
Meanwhile, a number of shops and public business places also set on fire with numerous property lost as Red Cross were deployed at the scene to rescue the surviving victims.
