The public prosecutor in the Court of Cassation has proposed a possible three year jail term for incarcerated politician Jean Marc Kabund, the defence lawyer has confirmed.
On Monday 14 August at the hearing held at Makala Central Prison in Kinshasa, the public prosecution suggested a three year jail term for Kabund who is facing 12 charges.
Kabund, a former ally of President Fèlix Tshisekedi, charges including contempt of Parliament, the Government and the Republic, insulting the Head of State, as well as the spread of false rumours.
This latest move by the public prosecutor is widely deemed as a move by President Tshisekedi and his regime to frustrate and dash Kabund’s candidature in the upcoming presidential polls set for December.
Meanwhile, Kabund legal defence remain confident and hope of the acquittal of their client with the final ruling set for 6th September, 2023.
