The Democratic Republic of Congo will be missing the services of key player Cedric Bakambu in next month’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after the Spanish-based striker suffered a new injury while featuring for his club.
Bakambu suffered a proximal right femoral tendon injury in action for Real Betis in the Andalusian derby against Sevilla on 28th April and will be out for four to five months, his club announced.
With about a month left before the Leopards face Senegal and Togo in the World Cup qualifiers, Bakumbu’s absence will be a huge to blow to coach Sebastien Desabre with the former Villarreal marksman being one of the Frenchman’s key players.
The Leopards who sit in third position in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers, face the Teranga Lions of Senegal away in Dakar on 3rd June before hosting Togo six days later in Kinshasa.
