Salomon Kalonda, a senior advisor to popular opposition leader Moise Katumbi, yesterday returned to his region to register as a voter and was accompanied for the registration by hundreds of supporters.

Kalonda is a popular figure in the Maniema region where he commands considerable support.

Shortly after registration at the Mamboleo school in the Basoko district in Kindu (Maniema), all hell broke loose.

“Youth should not be exploited for political purposes, but this will still not intimidate us. I will go all the way to save this population,” he said.

The entourage of Kalonda, reveals that the intervention of the provincial authority happened only after three hours of the incident even when the police authorities were contacted and alerted in advance.
