FROM FOOTBALL TO POLITICTS: TP Mazembe Legend, Tresor Mputu, Follows Kidiaba’s Path; Goes For Parliamentary Seat

TP Mazembe legend Tresor Mputu has announced he will seek political office in the December 20, 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This come a few days after Mputu bade farewell to his playing career and now ventures into politics.

The former Congolese star midfielder becomes the second Mazembe star after former goalie Robert Kidiaba to venture into politics. Kidiaba won a parliamentary seat in 2018.

On Saturday February 18, 2023, Mputu fulfill his civic duty like any Congolese by registering as a voter. The legend received his voter’s card in his native town of N’djili located in the eastern part of the Congolese capital.

Soon after completing the process, Mputu declared himself as a future national deputy candidate in the next elections in the constituency of Tshangu.

“I will be a national deputy candidate in the Tshangu constituency,” he said.

Mputu is part of the opposition Together for the Republic led by TP Mazembe chairman, Moïse Katumbi.

Katumbi is the top contender for the presidential seat currenytly occupied by President Felix Tshisekedi.
