FRAUDSTERS: Govt Suspends Electoral Fraudster Governors

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has suspended three provincial governors who were recently found guilty of electoral fraud and other irregularities.

Kinshasa Province’s Gentiny Ngobila, César Limbaya of Mongala Province and Équateur Province’s Bobo Boloko were recently had their re-elections invalidated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI).

The three governors were among 82 candidates invalidated by CENI for perpetrating various forms of electoral malpractice including corruption, illegal detention of DEVs, vandalism of electoral materials and intimidation of electoral agents.

In a letter signed by Vice-Prime Minister of the Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, the three governors have since been suspended from their roles effective Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Government has since guided that the provincial deputy governors will take the helm in the interim as the three governors appear before the attorney general at the court of cassation.
