Haut Katanga governor Jack Kyabula Katwe on Saturday made a suspicious meet-up with the opponent of TP Mazembe, Monastir, in the CAF Confederation Cup shortly before they played the Lubumbashi giants on Sunday.
Kyabula, who is also FC Lupopo president, was captured cozying up to Monastir officials in what Congolese believe was an ill-timed interaction.
The governor is still yet to overcome the controversy that saw him decide to take Lupopo play its matches in Zambia ignoring the only CAF certified sports facility – Stade de Mazembe.
“We know that Kyabula is the governor of the city and can meet any team that visits. But he is the one who understands the rivarly between Lupopo and Mazembe. How can he meet the Mazembe opponents before the match. Why? Is it not him who took Lupopo to Zambia because of the rivalry between the two teams?
“This is creating confusion and debate which is to be avoided,” said Lubumbashi resident Fiston Mulenkimba.
Monastir went on to defeat Mazembe 2-0 on Sunday.
