DRC VOTING PREPS: Haut Katanga Governor Registers To Vote In Kilobelobe

Haut Katanga governor Jacques Kyabula Katwe has registered as a voter with two days before the obtained his voter card on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the registration center of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) based in the Kilobelobe district in the city of Lubumbashi (Haut-Katanga).

Accompanied by his former provincial Minister of Infrastructures Miguel Katemb and a crowd, the head of the provincial executive called on the population to register massively a few days before the closing of the process in the second operational.

Kyabula says those who will not register but are eligible will be missing on an opportunity to elect their leaders the December 20, 2023 elections.

“For me, it is a matter of satisfaction and I have my voter card. So I have the right to vote and of course to be voted. There are only two or three days left to close. The populations must absolutely be enrolled and the elections are coming soon. We have a duty to support the institutions through strong public participation,” he told reporters as he left the enrollment office.

The process in this region started on January 25 and ends on February 25 unless an extension is given by CENI

Several political and local civil society figures wanted the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to also extend voter registration by one month, as was the case in the first operational area.
