DRC POLLS 2023: Voting In Limbo For Several Congolese People As Voters Cards Defect

Several citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo may not exercise their right to vote in the upcoming December 20 elections due to damaged voter’s cards obtained barely three months ago.

A number of citizens have complained that their voters cards have been left damaged due to the poor quality of material used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) in the printing of the cards.

“I have just noticed that the writing on my voter card is no longer legible, nor my photo. Fortunately, I had made copies after obtaining it,” complained Trésor M, a resident of Tshangu.

“I was surprised to see that there is no more writing on my card. I fear being excluded from the list of voters and eligible candidates,” another citizen Cyntiche N, complained.

The electoral board, CENI, has since been urged to review the voter registration process to ensure all eligible voters are handed new voters cards to be able to exercise their right to vote.
