DRC EAST CRISIS: Kagame Storms Out Of AU Meeting; Rebels Still Hold On To Kitshanga

Rwanda president Paul Kagame has reportedly walked out of a meeting discussing the security of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.

As discussions on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo continued for nearly 4 hours of a closed door meeting on February 17, 2023 in the Julius Nyerere room of the former African Union building, headquarters of the AU Peace and Security Council, Kagame’s face appeared shut and he immediately left the room.

Sources at the meeting revealed that the president of Rwanda has not supported the charges against his country in the reports of the chiefs of staff of the Eastern African Command in the region.

Some of the resolutions is that the warring parties ceasefire, rebels be withdrawn by March 30, 2023 and over 500, 000 people displaced be resettled.

It’s not clear that the parties involved have agreed to any resolution or charges outlined by the observers.

Meanwhile, local media in the east report that Kitshanga is still in the hands of the M23 rebels despite heavy fighting with the DRC forces on Thursday and Friday.
