DOHA TALKS BEARING FRUITS: Congolese Govt, AFC/M23 Reach Agreement For Humanitarian Truce in the East

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government and the Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) & M23 rebel-coalition have reached an agreement for a truce that could ultimately pave way for an effective ceasefire in the eastern region.

The two parties committed to the agreement through the ongoing talks mediated by Qatar in the capital, Doha.

Both the Congolese government and the AFC/M23 reaffirmed their commitment to immediately cease any hostilities as well as any speech of hate or intimidate for the meantime.

According to the joint statement issued by the two parties on Wednesday, the Congolese government and AFC/M23 rebels will in the next round of talks focus on identifying the root causes of the current security crisis and ways to to resolve the conflict in the eastern region provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu.
