DICTATORSHIP: Tshisekedi Wants Reuters Correspondent, Stanis Bujakera, Jailed For 15 Years

As Reuters correspondent and interntional journalist Stanis Bujakera spent his second night in police custody, information has emerged that President Felix Tshisekedi wants him charged with an offence of false publication of classified information which carries a jail term of 15 years.

Tshisekedi and his administration have accused Bujakera of authoring an alleged false article for Jeune Afrique which detailed revelations of circumstances leading to the death of opposition Ensemble pour la République spokesperson Chérubin Okende.

Okende was assassinated on July 13, 2023, 24 hours after he had been kidnapped.

A report recently published shows that the presidency was involved in the killing of Okende.

Jeune Afrique have issued a statement demanding the release of Bujakera, a top Congolese journalist ranked among the most credible sources of information.
