DICTATORSHIP: After Katumbi, Tshisekedi’s Govt Blocks Matata Mpon From Visiting Kenge

Following Wednesday’s incident where opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique Party president Moïse Katumbi was blocked from visiting Kongo Central, another opposition party leader has been barred from conducting programs in Southwest Democratic Republic of Congo.

Opposition Leadership and Governance For Development Party (LDG) president Augustin Matata Mpon has been blocked from holding his planned meeting with students in Kenge town of Kwango Province.

On Friday, 26 May 2023, had been scheduled to meet students before heavy security personnel were deployed at Cinquantenaire Hall where the opposition leader was to conduct his conference to halt the program.

The LDG Party have since reacted with disappointment the act by government of Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi to prevent a peaceful citizen’s gathering.

“President Matata Ponyo was banned from holding his conference with the students in Kenge where he arrived this morning at 09:30 hours” the LDG Party tweeted on Friday.

“The students accuse the Governor of having deployed the police in front of the hall of the Cinquantenaire.”

Aside the blocking of Katumbi and Matata from visiting Kongo Central and Kenge respectively, government were also implicated in acts of brutality as National Police pounced on protestors in Kinshasa last week.
