CONGO MPS DECIDE: Over 200 National Deputies Gather to Elect National Assembly President

More than 200 National Deputies are gathering this evening in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s National Assembly to elect the new head of the house.

The National Deputies arrived at the People’s Palace and gathered in the Congress Hall where voting booths have set up ahead of the elections.

Former Deputy Minister of Economy Vital Kamerhe has been tipped to be the favourite in the race that also has outgoing President Christophe Mboso vying to retain the presidency in the house.

The third candidate is Modeste Bahati Lukwebo who is the outgoing senate speaker of the National Assembly and was the first amongst the trio to arrive at the People’s Palace this evening.

The primary elections have been organized, due to the lack of a consensus, to decide amongst three contenders to take the post of President of the National Assembly.
