CONGO IN DILEMMA: DRC’s Corruption Rank Tarnishing Country’s International Image

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been ranked amongst the fifteen most corrupt countries in the world following the latest report released by the Transparency International.

In the according to the report, the DRC scored just 20% in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) to rank as one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

The latest ranking released by the Transparency International has since raised major concerns over the country’s international image.

Popular opposition candidate Moïse Katumbi has charged that the current corruption rate in the DRC is likely to lure away potential investors.

“The 2023 report from Transparency International indicates that the DRC, our country, ranks among the fifteen most corrupt countries in the world. This situation continues to tarnish the reputation and image of our country internationally, thus leading to the reluctance of serious investors to come and establish themselves here” Katumbi wrote on X.

Katumbi has noted acts of fraud that characterized the chaotic 2023 General Elections and continuous snaffling of natural resources by government officials of the Fèlix Tshisekedi regime as major causes of the nation’s apalling corruption ranking.

“In addition, the stuffing of ballot boxes during the KADIMA elections as well as corruption in mining files, in particular the Lithium Manono file, are additional examples of this reality.

The country finds itself held hostage by businessmen steeped in corruption, embezzlement and other anti-values. Good governance and the well-being of the people are the least of their concerns” he added.

The country’s corruption ranking has continued to scale down under the Tshisekedi regime in which several key government officials have been exposed in corrupt and fraudulent practices.
