Leading opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique President Moïse Katumbi Chapwe is set to make a giant step in his bid to be elected as president of the Democratic Republic of Congo as he files in his submits his nomination for the 20 December polls.
Katumbi’s party announced that it had preceded to submit its leaders’ candidature in advance but were requested by the electoral CENI to provide original copies of his particulars as per electoral code of conduct.
Party spokesperson Herve Diakiese confirmed that all was set for Katumbi’s nomination on Wednesday.
“We are urgently dispatching a team to Lubumbashi to take the original documents. This means that tomorrow these elements will be made available to the CENI so that the candidacy of President Katumbi can be filed” Diakiese said.
Official confirmation of Katumbi’s candidature is eagerly awaited by his supporters who have showed up in massive numbers to offer their support to their leader during his trail of revitalizing his party ahead of the elections.
The DRC electoral race has so far seen seven candidates successfully submit their candidacies to mark a crucial step in the electoral process.
