An influential lawmaker Mike Mukebay has been kidnapped by unknown people.
Mukebay, a National Deputy, was instrumental in the mobilization of supporters for the May 20, 2023 and was briefly detained by police during the demonstration on Saturday where he was airlifted.
According to an alert posted on social media on Sunday night, Mukebay was waylaid in front of his premises in Lingwala commune.
Members of his family say they saw men in hoods who were heavily armed and blocked his way to the main entrance.
Some of the assailants were traveling on a motorcycle and in a white jeep.
They say Mukebay was forcibly bundled in the vehicle before they sped off with him.
“I denounce and reassure President Tshisekedi that these dictatorial and intimidation methods will not save him. Courage to you dear brother and fighter Mike Mukebay,” a close ally posted following the kidnapping of the official.
