The Democratic Republic of Congo opposition leaders Moise Katumbi, Augustin Matata Mapon and Delly Sesanga are waiting for a response on the demand for two Constitutional Court judges to resign for attempting to obstruct an independent investigation into the assassination of Ensemble pour la République spokesperson Chérubin Okende.
The two judges are suspected to be accomplices in the coordination of the kidnapping of Okende hours before he was discovered dead in his vehicle on a Kinshasa Highway.
President Félix Tshisekedi who made some statement to appear to shed some crocodile tears has not shown political will to expedite an independent investigation into Okende’s death.
Okende’s kidnapping and subsequent death on July 13, 2023 comes on the back of Tshisekedi’s politically targetted kidnappings and imprisonment of opponents on false charges.
Katumbi’s senior political advisor Salomon Kalonda Della, Ensemble MP Mike Mukebayi and Franck Diongo have all been imprisoned over the last 70 days for crimes manufactured in Tshisekedi’s head.
Diongo was released shortly after Okende died.
