Abandoned by the government in the morgue, legendary Congolese guitarists Denis Lokassa Kasiya, also known as Lokassa ya Mbongo, and Rigobert Bamundele or as Rigo Star will finally be handed proper interments befitting their status.
DR Congo’s son of the soil Moïse Katumbi has once again proved his compassion by offering himself to fulfill the responsibility neglected by the Congolese government to honour the two legendary artists with beffiting burials.
Lokassa Ya Mbongo died on March 14 in Nashua, New Hampshire, U.S., aged 77 while battling diabetes with his body flown Kinshasa but has remained in the morgue for the past seven months.
The family to the deceased legendary music artist have been let down by the government who have failed to fulfill their promise to give Lokassa a dignified farwell.
For the love of his country and people, Katumbi has since offered to foot the bill of the US$75,000 budget for Lokassa’s burial.
On a live TV show, Katumbi also promised to ensure Rigo Star, who died on Thursday 26 October 2023 in France, is put to rest properly.
Both Lokassa and Rigo Star are widely considered to be amongst the greatest Congolese musicians and pioneers of the soukous genre.
