TP Mazembe President Moïse Katumbi has accepted Congolese tactician Florent Ibenge’s request for his Sudanese club Al Hilal SC to play their home matches in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League at the Stade de TP Mazembe in Lubumbushi.
With the ongoing tense security situation in Sudan, Ibenge and Hilal have had to camp in North Africa and played their pre-group stage home match against Angolan side Premeiro de Agosto in El Jadida, Morocco.
Ibenge was prompted to reach out to President Katumbi to help his side secure the venue in Lubumbushi, a request that was accepted immediately by the latter.
This is the latest of Katumbi’s numerous acts of goodwill even despite after Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi blocked his club, TP Mazembe from hosting its African Football League matches in its own country.
Al Hilal are in Group C of the Champions League and will face Tunisian clubs Esperance Sportive des Tunis and Étoile du Sahel as well as Angolan side Petro Luanda.
