A few days after the international community warned Congolese and its leadership against prompting ethnic conflicts, a supporter of President Felix Tshisekedi has emerged threatening the life of opposition leader Moise Katumbi because of his Katanga origin.
A video of the yet to be identified Kasai youth describes Katangese as cold hearted and a bunch of wizards wishing President Tshisekedi ill.
“Moise is a traitor, he will never rule Congo because Tshisekedi will be president for another 50 years,” the youth declared.
“Wait. The Tshani Law is coming. We will arrest Katumbi, if he is not arrested we will kill him.”
No government official or ruling party, UDPS, senior members have condemned the video or its divisive and highly provocative message.
A simmering battle between Kasais, tribesmates of Tshisekedi who form the largest constituency of the ruling party and Katangese who are predominantly an opposition stronghold, has been brewing ahead of the elections in the December 20, 2022 elections.
Late last week, the international community led by the US Embassy in Kinshasa, UK and EU warned political parties against promoting anarchy ahead of the elections.
This was after Katumbi special advisor, Salomon Kalonda Della, was arbitrary arrested after being kidnapped at N’djili International Airport in Kinshasa.
