STRIKE: Health Workers In Kwilu Boycott Work Due to Harsh Conditions

Health care and administration workers in Bulungu town of Kwilu Province have gone on an indefinite strike demanding the DRC government to honour it’s obligations towards the health service in the territory.

At a General Assembly held on August 24, the health workers demanded the DRC government to acquire new working equipment, payment of owed bonuses as well as introduction of a tenure-in-grade.

Despite having submitted these legitimate and valid demands, the health workers have received no correspondence as from the relevant authorities as of yet.

A number of the workers have complained that despite having worked in the service for over two decades they remain as “new recruits” and have not received their settlement bonuses or given official employment confirmations.

They further claimed that they have been engaging government with their concerns that have fallen on deaf ears all over the years.

For now, the health workers’ return to work is dependant on government’s response with the people of Bulungu left without essential medical services.
