RESOLVING KASUMBALESA CRISIS:Zambian President Plans To Meet Tshisekedi In Addis Ababa

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema will meet President Felix Tshisekedi in Addis Ababa to discuss ways to resolve the congestion at Kasumbalesa border post.

The Kasumbalesa border is the busiest port that separate Zambia and the DRC.

Trucks are sometimes marooned at the border for weeks with complaints of corruption, crime and utter incompetence by custom officials.

“While on the Copperbelt, we took time to interact with truck drivers to see firsthand, the state of affairs along Kitwe-Chingola Road, Kasumbalesa and appreciate the challenges that they are facing,” President Hichilema said.

“We will discuss this issue with my brother President Tshisekedi of DRC, on the sidelines of the AU summit in Addis Ababa where we are headed.”

President Hichilema says the situation has impacted trade between DRC and Zambia, and by extension SADC which is why it must be resolved urgently.
