LUPOPO MISS OUT: FECOFA NC Confirm Four CAF Envoys

Following the premature finish to the 2022/23 football season in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the football organizing has confirmed the four clubs set to represent the country in continental football next season.

FECOFA Normalization Committee have confirmed TP Mazembe, AS Vita Club, AS Maniema Union and DC Motema Pembe as the the nation’s envoys in next season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions.

On Saturday, the Normalization Committee sat to end the long speculation on the clubs to represent the DR Congo following the cancellation of the Linafoot.

The Normalization Committee decided the continental football slots basing on the criteria of the clubs’ performances in CAF inter-clubs competitions.

“The ranking to be taken for the Linafoot Ligue 1 for the 2022-2023 season is the result of the cumulative points of the four validated seasons, namely the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons,” the Normalization Committee indicated.

Five-time African champions Mazembe took first place having amassed 256 points and will represent the DR Congo in the Champions League alongside Vita who came second with 244 points.

Maniema Union and Motema Pembe will compete in the Confederation Cup after emerging third and fourth respectively.

Meanwhile, Lubumbashi giants Saint Eloi Lupopo who reached the group stage in the Confed Cup this season, miss out after coming 5th with 161 points.
