DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi is set to travel to Luanda on December 15 in Angola where he will meet his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame over the ongoing tensions between the two nations
The leaders will meet under the mediation of Angolan President João Lourenço as dialogue talks between the two nations enters a critical stage.
According to the DRC’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Thérése Kayikwamba the government hopes to negotiate for “the departure of Rwandan troops” from Congolese territory.
During the 2023 election campaigns, Tshisekedi declared at a public rally that he would only agree to go and meet Kagame in heaven.
However, Tshisekedi changed his statement last April and stated that, if he met Kagame, “it would not be to beg him or negotiate anything with him. It’s to ask him and tell him clearly, eye to eye, that he’s a criminal, that enough is enough.”
